the small  chain of being

A play on the ‘Great Chain of Being’, this piece ties human elements and fauna together in one entity, yet these elements are ‘small’ compared to the Great Chain of Being. As it compares humans directly to animals rather than including God and our human ideals of ranking. The flesh tones are a reminder of mortality and thus further ground the ego of the Great Chain. This piece simplifies what we can see and what exists tangibly, rather than considering class and beliefs, yet does so in an intricate and beautiful piece of jewellery.
